Hair colorists use a numbering and color system in order to define the natural neutral color of a person's hair.  In general, the system begins at number 1, which is black, and ends at 10, which is when a person has blonde hair.  It is essential to know a person's number because the color techniques and types are determined by the hair's original color shade.
